Where We Are
Southwest Virginia is located in the
Appalachian Region of the Eastern United States
Counties which are west of Roanoke are often referred to as
"Far Southwest Virginia" and are primarily comprised of small, rural towns. Many of which are a great distance from metropolitan areas, including the state capitol of Richmond.
Lee, our western most county, is 6 1/2 hours drive to Richmond.
Most travelers on Interstate 81, which crosses the state line into Tennessee, believe that Virginia 'ends' at the City of Bristol/Washington County. As the map shows, there is much more of Virginia to see!
Interestingly enough, many SWVA counties along Virginia's border are closer to metropolian areas within TN, WV, KY, and NC.
